Frequently Asked Questions

Participants

Is the Run for Food still happening?

The Run for Food is still on. It will be an opportunity for us to gather, give thanks, possibly run/walk, and to receive the blessing of each other's presence on Thanksgiving morning. Our community has faced incredible devastation and we believe that now, more than ever, we need to come together to help those who are in need.

What if the Air Quality is too poor?

We will frequently monitor the AQI in anticipation of the Run. If it reaches a dangerous level, we will recommend N95 masks, and even consider restricting the participants’ exertion. Stay tuned. The AQI changes hourly.

Where is money going?

The money raised from the Run for Food benefits the Jesus Center. The Jesus Center is a nonprofit organization founded in God’s love. In response to the complexity of homelessness, hunger and poverty, we work with our community to offer respite, restoration and lasting transformation to God’s children. Folks experiencing homelessness come to us with all sorts of causes and concerns. Our recent homeless from the fire will be those who were living on the edge, the elderly and the already poor or homeless. Our mission extends to them in every way and the services and programs provided as a result of the Run for Food will include evacuees.

What is the Jesus Center doing for evacuees?

All services of the Jesus Center are open to the homeless and newly displaced members of our community. In the short term, the Center offers mail service, showers, meals, a place to rest, computers, social workers, FEMA assistance, phones, animal supplies, free masks, clothes, blankets, and other necessities. The Jesus Center is a leader in the social service network working with city and county officials, all of the relevant nonprofits, churches, and services in the community as a result of the fires. The Jesus Center will be a central player in the long-term restoration and rebuilding after the Camp Fire.

Is something happening at the Run to honor the evacuees?

Before the run, there will be a tribute to those who lost homes and lives. To further support those in need, we will be collecting new socks, new underwear and gift cards at packet pick up and the run. These will be distributed to evacuees.
